MEETING REPORT
Dear fellow researchers,
it is our pleasure to announce the German Research Platform for Zoonoses workshop
“Cell biology of zoonotic viral infections:
from reservoirs to humans”
at the Schöntal Monastery near Heilbronn, Germany from October 23 until 25, 2019.
Our aim is to bring students, postdocs together with experts in virology and cell biology
thereby encouraging and assisting scientific interdisciplinary exchange. We specifically
encourage infection biologists, cell biologists, veterinarians and physicians to share their work
on cell biology of zoonotic infections. The interdisciplinary nature of the workshop strives to
stimulate new collaborations in viral zoonoses research.
Four keynote speakers will cover topics from arthropod cell biology to host innate immune
response to infection. Dr. Lesley Sakyi (University of Liverpool, UK), Prof. Stephan Becker
(Philipps-Universität Marburg), Dr. Sandra Junglen (Charité, Berlin) and Prof. Alain Kohl
(University of Glasgow, UK) will share their unique experience and vision in both cell biology
and virology. Additionally, we will host a session on scientific editing by Prof. Karen Mossman
(Editor at PLoS Pathogens).
All accepted participants will receive the opportunity to present their work in form of an oral
or poster presentation and prizes for the best oral presentation and the best poster will be
awarded. We will encourage a lively atmosphere with open discussions. We look forward to
seeing old faces and meeting new colleagues who share our excitement for viruses and cells.
See you in Schöntal.
Yours sincerely,
The workshop chairs
Gisa Gerold
Pierre-Yves Lozach
This workshop is organized by the German Research Platform for Zoonoses and the Society
of Virology (GfV) study group „Cell Biology of Viral Infections“ with co-sponsoring by the
German Society of Cell Biology (DGZ).
