MEETING REPORT
whole organisms. In particular, Klaus Rajewsky was honored for
his contributions to the development, maturation and malignant
transformation of B cells which was presented in a very personal
laudatio by Jürgen Wienands (Göttingen).
A long lasting tradition and commitment in the STS and the
Joint Meetings is also implicated by the strong support of juni-
or scientist by providing different prizes and stipends. Thus, all
participants with a poster presentation had the opportunity to
quickly present the highlights of their work in a plenary sessi-
on as a ‘One-minute-one-transparency’. During the accompany-
ing poster-viewing, the five most relevant posters were selected
and awarded with 750.--
in total prizes. Moreover, the STS also
provided again – as in previous years - 10 travel stipends to dip-
loma, master, and PhD students in a total volume of 2,500.--
.
In addition, an innovation prize of 500.--
from the GBM was
awarded to Christine Steinhäuser (Borstel) for a new and inno-
vative method in the field of signal transduction research which
enables the identification of mycobacteria-containing phago-
somes from infected macrophages using an immune-magnetic
technology. Finally, the STS science award (1,000.--
) sponsored
by Biomol GmbH for excellent scientific contributions was pre-
sented to Simone Lipinski (Kiel) for the identification of an immu-
ne response-controlling scaffolding protein by a RNAi screening
method.
In summary, this STS joint meeting was again a very successful
international conference which has also been acknowledged and
rated as such by an anonymous voting of 30 questions answered
by more than 70 university and sponsoring participants. This en-
courages the organizers to maintain and transfer this high quality
standard to the next STS joint meeting which will take place this
year again at the Leonardo Hotel in Weimar from November 5 to
7. Deadline for scientific contributions will be September 15th,
2014 at

Be brilliant...
Introducing the newest member of Hamamatsu's Gen II scientific CMOS camera family,
the ORCA-Flash4.0 LT.
The ORCA-Flash4.0 LT makes it easy to be brilliant – delivering excellent image quality and high reliability. It provides
2x the speed, 3x the field of view and up to 5x the signal-to-noise of even the best interline CCD cameras.
Designed to be an ideal workhorse digital camera and to bring research-grade performance to every imaging project.
The ORCA-Flash4.0 LT delivers the high performance of sCMOS technology at the price of a scientific CCD.
