About the author
Frank Zaucke studied Biology at the
University of Karlsruhe. He then did
his PhD with Harald F. Krug in the
Institute for Genetics and Toxicology
at the Karlsruhe Institute of Techno-
logy (KIT) where he worked on the
effect of organometallic compounds
on cells with special regard on sig-
nal transduction and apoptosis. For
his postdoc, he went to the Center
for Biochemistry at the Medical Fa-
culty, University of Cologne, where
he started to focus on the extracellular matrix with Mats Pauls-
son and studied chondrocyte differentiation. After a couple of
years he became an independent group leader at the same insti-
tute. In 2010, he obtained his Venia legendi in Biochemistry and
Molecular Biology. The main research interest of his group is to
elucidate the molecular and cellular basis of extracellular matrix
assembly and to define the contribution of extracellular matrix
components to tissue function and connective tissue pathologies
with special regard to cartilage and bone.
