PREFACE
Our latest issue of Cell News announces the prizes, which the
DGZ awards to scientists at different career stages. Thanks
to our sponsors, we are happy to look for candidates for the
NIKON Young Scientist Award, the Walther Flemming Award
(sponsored by the European Journal of Cell Biology), the BIND-
ER Innovation Prize and the Werner Risau Prize. It is certainly
worth to have a closer look into the calls to find out to which
of the prizes one may apply. Prize winners will range from early
Postdoc level to the level of established senior scientists. The
list of previous prize winners as well as more information about
the scope of our prizes can be found at:
/
wissenschaftspreise/.
We are going to invite all prize winners to this year’s interna-
tional meeting, the GBM/DGZ Fall Conference in Tübingen. The
meeting is organized by the German Society for Biochemistry
and Molecular Biology (GBM) and the DGZ as a joint event. The
meeting will therefore not only bring together the annual prize
winners of both our societies and give them a forum to present
their research. The meeting will even more underline the need
for cooperation in the life sciences. The borders between
“classical” cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, but
also developmental biology and biomedical sciences get more
and more artificial. “Interdisciplinarity” is thus not only a buzz
word but the direction our science and label “Cell Biology” has
to develop into. If you follow this idea, I am sure you will love
our joint meeting!
We are looking forward to exciting science at not only at our
meetings but throughout all our interactions with our students,
fellows and colleagues. Cell Biology has never been any more
dynamic and open to all sides than these days.
Best regards,
The Board of the German Society for Cell Biology
