Preface
Dear colleagues,
as already announced in the last issue of Cell News, we would like to cordially invite you to attend the next In-
ternational Meeting of the German Society for Cell Biology from March 24 - 27 in Cologne. Our local organizers
Carien Niessen, Angelika Noegel, Thorsten Hoppe, Sandra Iden and Sara Wickström have arranged a wonderful
programme with hot topics and outstanding speakers. Please find the detailed programme of the meeting on
page 7/8 in this issue. To foster young researchers, we have integrated for the first time special Young Inves-
tigator Satellite Meetings, which will be held as a prequel on the first day. We will also celebrate the 40th
anniversary of the DGZ with a plenary meeting covering important breakthroughs in cell biology in recent years.
Thus, save the date and come to Cologne, you won't regret it. Book your hotel soon, since there are other events
and trade fairs at the same time in Cologne.
Later in spring, more specifically May 2 - 5, Eugen Kerkhoff, Klemens Rottner and Theresia Stradal will host the
3rd of our highly successful international meetings on
Actin Dynamics
. It will take place in Regensburg. You'll
find an overview of the exciting programme on page 32/33 in this issue.
A topic of great relevance to many of us is the amendment of the animal protection act, which is based on the
EU directive and became effective in August last year. The commission for animal experiments of the senat of the
DFG (German Research Foundation), who gives advice to political committees, parliaments and authorities and
who pleads the case of us researchers has now created a questionaire on your experiences and problems with
the current animal protection act in Germany. Please have a look at the questionaire and the attached letter of
the chairman of this DFG commission with further information, if you are affected by these new regulations in
your research. The corresponding files are linked here:
Finally, we would like to ask YOU to think about an own contribution (article, book review, opinion etc.)
that you would like to see published in Cell News. Just contact us at
or have a look at
/
for more information about how to prepare an article.
Best wishes
