Meeting Report
A very positive event of the meeting was a joint session with the
German Society for Matrix Biology, on cell adhesion. As already
mentioned above, also here as well as in the other sessions on
cytoskeletal organisation the biophysical measurement of mecha-
nical forces and its influence on cell organization and behaviour
was a hot topic. Traditionally the cytoskeletal research represents a
central discipline of cell biology and the sessions on actin polyme-
rization machines and microtubule nucleation can thus be regar-
ded as another highlights of the programme. The research strength
of local groups at the University of Regensburg on germ lines and
stem cells in plant, chromatin organization, RNA biology and can-
cer cell biology were also perfectly integrated into the scientific
programme and were well received by the international cell biology
community.
The „Poster and beer“ sessions meanwhile became a permanent
institution at meetings organized by the German Society for Cell
Biology and were for sure one of the scientific highlights of the
Regensburg International Cell Biology Meeting. Altogether 130

For the most demanding fluorescence microscopy applications
Superior price/performance ratio for most applications compared to EM-CCDs
High speed readout: 100 frames/s at 4 megapixels
Dark noise < 0.006 e-/pixel/sec (@-30°C cooling)
For routine fluorescence microscopy applications
Outperforms high-end interline CCD cameras
Cost-effective

posters were presented mostly by graduate students and younger
post-docs. The discussions on the individual posters went on until
late hours. Here especially the international invited speakers did
a great job in discussing the projects of the young scientists. To
further support and attract young researchers one session was or-
ganized on fund raising and publishing. The invited speakers from
funding agencies (DFG and ERC) provided a very good overview
about individual and network funding possibilities with a focus on
researchers at the beginning of their career. Editors from publis-
hers (EMBO Journal, Current Biology and eLIFE) gave stimulating
presentations on publishing procedures, the reviewing process and
scientific misconduct.
To summarize the meeting we think there is no better final con-
clusion as to emphasize the warm and familiar atmosphere of the
meeting, the exciting scientific presentations and discussions es-
pecially among researchers from various branches of cell biology
who were strongly stimulated by each other.
